Facing Mountain Regions
During her residency in Villa Ruffieux in Sierre (October-November 2014), Luana Letts chose to work on water, natural hazards and real estate speculation that has so profoundly changed Swiss alpine landscape.
Through her work, she wants to raise awareness of transformations affecting our landscape and the challenges we face today, between preservation and development.
A monumental work presents a mosaic of images conceived as an inventory of the architecture of type « chalet », mass-produced in Swiss touristic resorts.
On another series of pictures Luana Letts intervenes by practising cuttings which bring a critical view. The glacier of Moiry, confronted as the others with a worrisome phenomenon of melting, disappears from the photography. Avalanche barriers and dams take strange sculptural forms.
Other series finally, wonder about the links between nature and culture, as these rusty bolts hidden on a ground covered with dead leaves which we can discover as a surprise when looking closely at the picture.
